The American Association for Orthodontists recommends that every child have an orthodontic evaluation by the

age of 7. Early detection and treatment gives your child the edge - a much better chance for natural and normal development. One advantage of having Dr. Shaw and Dr. Ashley for your child’s dental home is that we monitor their growth & development on a regular basis.  If your child is a candidate for orthodontic services, Dr. Pearce is available to treat your child at our office.  Our parents truly appreciate having orthodontic treatment done in our office.  This allows them to coordinate cleaning and check-up appointments with orthodontic appointments.

By working with the natural growth instead of against it, we can prevent problems from becoming worse, and give your child or teen a lifetime of healthy smiles! Studies have shown that people who have straight teeth are more likely to smile more. This leads to a greater self esteem which may lead to a more fulfilling life.

Choose a Pediatric Dental Specialist for your Child

Pediatric Dentistry is the dental specialty recognized by the American Dental Association which encompasses comprehensive dental care for all children, from infancy through adolescence.

A children’s dental specialist like Dr. Shaw is a practitioner who, after becoming a general dentist (often called a family dentist), has completed an additional two years of post-doctoral training in the recognition and treatment of children’s dental services. Specialty education includes child psychology, behavior guidance, preventive techniques, restorative dentistry, orthodontics, sedation dentistry, and the treatment of children with special needs. Both of our doctors are certified pediatric dental specialists.

A thorough exam will be done to evaluate the health of your child’s teeth, gums and mouth. One of our doctors will evaluate your child’s growth and development and check to make sure your child’s oral development is on track.  Our office will make child-specific recommendations for the need of sealants, fluoride and other services based on your child’s individual needs and habits.

We strive to make each visit fun, educational and memorable for you & your child!

Children's Dental Topics:

During your first visit to our office we want to take the time to get acquainted and gather information. This includes a thorough examination and possibly taking x-rays we feel may be required to make a complete diagnosis. At this time we will also discuss with you the nature of any necessary dental care.

We have ways of explaining procedures to children, being honest and presenting it in a manner that will not frighten them. If your child asks, “will it hurt?” We feel it is wise to say that Dr. Shaw and Dr. Ashley are your friends and will be very gentle with you. Avoid phrases such as “it won’t hurt” and “that wasn’t so bad.”
We want your child to have positive memories of going to our office.

Please print and fill out our new patient forms. Bring them with you at first appointment, Thank You.
